A Crowded Sky

The cold breeze caressed her face

As her eyes glared at the array of street lights

Fixed at an equal distance from each other

Lost in thought, wondering a thousand things at one time

She sat on the terrace walls

4 stories above the ground

Facing the highway that was faintly visible at a distance

At night the street lights, covered in Tri-colored L.E.D. strips,

Lit up the whole road with a sense of nationality

As she sat in her most favorite spot in the whole house

She thought of all the possibilities that could come true

Jumping off was one of the possible options

It always fascinated her; death!

The feeling of losing the mortal world was still a mystery for her

She closed her eyes and felt the breeze slowly hit her cheeks

Her lips smirked at the feeling

With her eyes closed, she was in a new universe

A universe of her own, with endless possibilities

And even in that universe, she wished for just one thing

As she opened her eyes to the faint sound of a door screeching

A wish made in a parallel universe came true in the original one

He came upon the terrace to look at the sky

The distance of 25 feet in between meant nothing to her

She could jump out to reach him at the moment

Their eyes met for a short glimpse of time

And her Starry eyes felt better than the picture-perfect milky way above his head

He could fathom the whole universe in her eyes

As if those eyes were the very beginning of time itself

That split second was longer than normal

It was long enough for them to notice each other’s presence

Feel each other even with the distance between them

The breeze had now stopped but she could still feel the warmth on her face

As if he was holding her face in his hands

Looking into those starry eyes

Preparing his lips to touch hers and kiss her,

Under that cloudless sky crowded with stars

And without thinking twice, she waved her hand

Feeling embarrassed, she retreated quickly

But it was too late now. He had already noticed the wave

He smiled at the innocence and waved back

Relaxed, she sighed and started talking

That rare phenomenon was now a usual event

That’s all it takes, an empty sky, a cool breeze, an innocent wave

And perfect timing

That’s all that is required for a classic cliché love story

No matter how cliché or boring it was for the world

For them, it was all that ever existed

Even after an eternity or two
